Sky Ferreira is an ElectroPop singer, model and actress from Los Angeles, California. She stared out on MySpace which is how she built her buzz and shortly before her 15th birthday, she caught the attention of Swedish producers Bloodshy & Avant by sending them a message through the social networking site. The producers were impressed and subsequently decided to work with her. She signed to Parlophone in July 2009 and subsequently appeared in the video for 'Pop the Glock' by Uffie and it's been non-stop for her since then. Her song 'Obessions' is featured on the Vampire Diaries soundtrack. Here's her take on Lana Del Rey's 'Blue Jeans'.

Scraps is the work of Brisbane's enigmatic synth pop songstress Laura Hill who wears her obsession with 80s synth rock on her sleeve, citing The Human League, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, A Flock of Seagulls, OMD, Gary Numan and Devo as influences. The 80s loom large in her subject matter as well. Lead track 1982 is a love/tribute song to all the machines that didn't get the girl in movies like Short Circuit and Electric Dreams, where the machines are much more interesting than the men. The 7 inch single Secret Paradise (out 23 July) was premiered on Radio One when Huw Stephens featured Critical Heights as his Label of Love. The video can be seen here and her 3 track single can be brought directly from here. School of Seven Bells are a dream pop/shoegaze band from Brooklyn, New York. They formed in 2007 and I remember seeing a flyer for one of their shows when I was out in NYC in 2008 but I didn't know who they were, I just remember thinking it was a cool name. Up until October 2010, the group consisted of identical twin sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza and Benjamin Curtis on guitar and electronics. That's them in the picture above, in that order. 'Windstorm' is a great example of their sound and was released as a single in 2010 to promote the 'Disconnect from Desire' album. Brilliant news! Chew Lips are back! After 15 months of living in Paris and now a new record deal with Sony, a second album is finally on the way! I realise that's three exclaimation marks on three sentences but I'm finding the whole thing quite exciting. I've been a big fan since I first heard 'Salt Air' back in 2009. 'Unicorn' was a big album for me during 2010 and definitely one of my most listened to albums of that year so to finally have another album on the way and to be able to share this with more people than just those who turn up in my living room is a joy. This is now without a doubt my favourite song so far of 2012, utterly flawless electro pop. If you're the type who has house parties, or even just big gatherings, put this on and I promise you won't go wrong. Yes, her again! Giving away free tracks in the run up to an album's release seems to be fast becoming an industry standard these days. The idea (from my point of view) being that it's better to have some of your music in a fan's music folder/on their phone then to just have it in the shops. Once it's in your music folder, you can listen to it as much or as little as you like but that familiarity with the artist is there and is often accompanied by the need to aquire more, plus you're obviously much more likely to pay attention to news of an artist if you've already got some of their music, as opposed to the millions of bands you've never heard of but who's names you're inunadated with and instantly disregard on a daily basis.
Anyway, that little rant aside, just click here. It's all very self explanitary. It feels like it's been a long time waiting for this album to come to come out, and I'm still waiting. Let this prime example of bubblegum pop tide you over. With a title like, Mini Mixtape - Vol 1, you can't help but feel that there's balently mroe to come! There's also a nice little clip of a new Chew Lips track called 'Do You Chew?' which, if like me, you've been waiting years for any new music from Chew Lips, then this is very good news indeed. Here's the tracklisting: Caramba - Fedora / Kia Ora MIA - Bad Girls Chris Brown - Look At Me Now (feat. Lil Wayne & Busta Rhymes) Prince - I Would Die 4 U LV - Northern Line (feat. Joshua Idehen) Beck - Get Real paid Carlos d'Alessio - Tika Tika Walk Chew Lips - Do You Chew? Andre Jacquemin - Um Bongo, Um Bongo (They Drink It In The Congo) Victoria Christina Hesketh is better known by her stage name 'Little Boots' and first caught my attention in late 2007 with her bedroom demo track videos when she was building her fanbase via YouTube channel. By the time she released her fantastic electropop album 'Hands' her popularity had grown massively, her first single 'New in Town' was everywhere. I remember being inNew York at the time and hearing it in various places over there and thinking 'Wow, this is that singer from Dead Disco?!' Here's a 40 minute mixtape that she put together featuring a mix of Factory Floor, Screamin' Rachael and Roxy Music. It's pretty dancy, a bit house, very electro. It's also in WAV format and 411MB so you may want to have a listen to it first and see if it's your cup of tea before downloading it and running it through an mp3 converter. Some helpful soul on SoundCloud worked out a tracklisting, with only two unidentified tracks, do you know what they are? Factory Floor - Two Different Ways Azari & III - Reckless (Tiga remix) Deee-Lite - What Is Love (Holographic Goatee mix) Kim Ann Foxman - Creature Roxy Music - Love is the Drug (Todd Terje Dub) ??? Larry Heard - The Sun Can't Compare Screamin' Rachael - Fun With Bad Boys (Jack Me Bad Boy mix) ??? Kylie Minogue - Slow (remix) L-Vis 1990 - Feel the Void Little Boots - Into the Future _ |
Making your music folder better, one song at a time.
_Pretty much everyday I seem to find some amazing exclusive tracks that
some awesome artists are giving away for free as a special one off
promotion. Today, it occured to me that instead of just downloading
them, maybe reposting them on facebook if they're special enough/someone I know and
then moving on, I should start a little music blog on here. Even if it
doesn't last forever, it's still a free song for you each day that it
does! I'd say the character of this blog is mostly electropop and singer/songwriter but I've got plans for mathcore, post-rock and glitch-hop. A lot of these tracks have a download limit of 100 so get in there on the quick. I'd also point out that a lot of the songs will need renaming once you've downloaded them so I'd do them one at a time. Archives
